The Irish Vintage Radio and Sound Society was formed in Sept. 1989 and the present membership stands at approx. 40 members.  The aim of the Society is to foster an interest in the collection and restoration of Valve Radios, Crystal Sets, Telephones, Wind-up Gramophones, Phonographs,  Vintage TV and all associated sound items. The ultimate aim of the Society is to open a permanent museum to display all of the collected memorabilia.

The theme of the Ireland 2016 exhibition will be “Communications and Home Entertainment from 1916”. and this will relate to the REMEMBER theme for 1916. This will be an interactive display which will show the means of communication  and also the means of home entertainment from 1916. This will feature period telephones, telegraph/morse instruments plus a full range of phonograph, gramophone and music box entertainment from the period. This will give all age groups an understanding of the home entertainment choices and communication methods in both rural and urban Ireland in  1916.
The exhibition  is currently running in The National Maritime Museum in Dun Laoghaire and will be fully manned by members of the Irish Vintage Radio & Sound Society  each Sundayafternoon from 2-4 pm. The items on display will all be working models with suitable music from the period.

The Committee is presently organising a calendar of events to celebrate the 1916 Commemorations, which includes both indoor, and outdoor displays. The display can be customised to  cater for an individual organisations requirement. These events will be presented free of charge.
The Society was previously involved with exhibitions at  Dun Laoghaire Garda Siochana Community Day, Cabinteely House, Airfield Farm Victorian Garden Party, Dun Laoghaire 1500 Celebrations.”The Forgotten Irish” Glasthule Community Centre, Moynalty Steam Rally, the pre1950’s Hollywood Fair in county Wicklow, Prawn Festival Howth, Wells House Victorian Day Dalkey Vintage Day.
